Oct/Nov '95: Mantle tales from Halperland
LIVINGSTON, N.J. -- LIFE magazine has been there since 7:30 a.m. They're putting out a commemorative Mickey Mantle issue. Sports Illustrated has already come calling to meet its weekly deadline. They wanted 25 Mickey Mantle photos that few people, if any, had seen. The networks called for interviews -- CBS, NBC. Now it's an Australian journalist who wants some time. It's another day for Barry in Halperland.
Well, not just another day. It's the post-mortem for the Mick. Halper, the consummate collector and baseball memorabilia tycoon, can remember Mickey Mantle, and countless others, through his immense collection. |
