When publications collector Bob Crestahl of Montreal saw that The Sporting News was auctioning off many of its illustrations he figured he'd found a logical extension to his collecting focus. Many famous cartoons by such notable illustrators as Willard Mullin, Lou Darvas and Leo O'Mealia fetched big dollars. Other clusters of published and unpublished illustrations sold in individual lots. Crestahl and a couple of partners joined forces to purchase more than 1,400 pieces of art in two separate auctions, including 135 pieces by Mullin.
