No faking out the Juice DENVER -- Collectors tried to pull a fast one on O.J. Simpson. "The Juice" proved during a private signing here that he's still plenty sharp. The Hall of Famer and Heisman winner from USC signed about 500 total items, mostly ball, helmets and photos. Some collectors tried to disguise the notorious, June 27, 1994, Sports Illustrated with other covers that glorified him. The collector would cut out a window where he wanted Simpson to sign his name. The item might be further disguised with matting. Of course, under the football stud image of O.J. was the evil image of O.J. on the '94 cover, which read: The Charge -- MURDER! The outfit handling the signing was LCF Sports, Inc., and O.J. threw up his hands and reminded the handlers that he wasn't signing trial-related stuff. Demand is falling for O.J.'s signature and so are his prices. At the recent signing, prices started at $55, a far cry from prices back when Simpson was signing from jail. |
