Duke Snider joined those 1963 Mets and stepped up to the plate against Sandy Koufax to knock his 400th career home run in a losing effort. So what, you say? Yeah, that was the national press's attitude as well. In most sports pages, Snider's homer received very little notice. Teammate Jimmy Piersall, was sitting on 99 career home runs and took a swipe at Snider. "You hit your 400th home run against a guy like Koufax and no one hardly notices," he said. "I'm going coast to coast when I hit my 100th."
